Former Crystal Palace and Wimbledon defender returns to international fold

Former Crystal Palace and AFC Wimbledon defender Kofi Balmer has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming matches.

Balmer, who joined Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in the summer, has been brought in as a late addition to Michael O’Neill’s side.

The 24-year-old was last called up in September 2022 but is yet to win his first cap for his country.

Balmer spent the second half of last season on loan at Wimbledon, where he made 17 appearances and picked up four goal contributions – one goal and three assists.

He left Crystal Palace in the summer, with St Mirren having bids turned down for the defender.

The former Larne centre-back has made four appearances this season so far for Motherwell.
