Oliver Glasner had no Crystal Palace sack concerns after first Premier League win of the season

Oliver Glasner had no fears over his Crystal Palace future as his side claimed their first win of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

Palace took the lead in the 31st minute through Jean-Philippe Mateta’s fifth goal of the season.

Daniel Munoz clipped a cross into the penalty area and Eberechi Eze produced a clever backheel to find the French striker free at the back post.

Mateta unleashed a left-footed shot beyond Vicario to give Palace the lead in the Premier League for just the second time this season.

Glasner’s side had chances to extend their lead in the second half – Eze and Sarr both tested the Spurs keeper with efforts inside the area.

Adam Wharton also went close, but in the end, Mateta’s first-half strike was enough to give Palace their first Premier League win of the season.

The Eagles had only picked up three points from their opening eight games – equalling their worst start to a Premier League campaign – and had only found the back of the net five times.

“I always felt quite comfortable with my job.

“I was always very close with my sporting director and my chairman.

“I wasn’t really concerned about my job.

“All of our performances [this season] were okay.

“We missed a little bit of what we showed today.

“We showed this courage, intensity and we showed bravery with how we pressed them.

“This was what we were missing.

“All the credit to the players with how they have dealt with this [winless] run.

“Everybody has asked about not winning.

“They have stayed cool and that’s why we all got the reward today.”
