Crystal Palace boss not considering Chelsea loanee positional change to cope with injuries to midfield duo

Oliver Glasner is not considering playing Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah in midfield to help cope with Crystal Palace’s injury problems.

Cheick Doucoure, who missed most of last season with an Achilles injury, is set to return to the matchday squad against Wolves following tendon damage to his toe, which he picked up in his first start under Glasner in the 2-2 draw with Leicester.

However, the former Wolfsburg boss will be without key midfielders Jefferson Lerma and Adam Wharton for the upcoming Premier League games against Wolves and Fulham.

Lerma suffered a hamstring injury against Tottenham, and Wharton will undergo surgery on a groin problem he has been carrying all season.

Chalobah, 25, is on a season-long loan from Stamford Bridge and has started the last four games in the back three alongside Marc Guehi and Maxence Lacroix.

The former Ipswich and Huddersfield loanee has featured in midfield during his career – mainly during his stint in the Championship and on a handful of times for the Blues.

“I really didn’t think about it,” said Glasner.

“I still haven’t several options in my mind.

“The back three are working together quite good.

“I’ll always prefer keeping those three together.

“As long as we have a solution – Cheick and Justin Devenny are available.

“Marc Guehi played there at the end of last season against Villa.

“Will [Hughes] and Daichi [Kamada] played there really well against Villa [in the cup].

“As long as we have options there, Trevoh will stay at the back.”
