Fire in fifth floor flat claims lives of two cats

Two cats died after a fire in a block of flats at Hammersmith.

Eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters were called out to Amber Way yesterday evening at around 5.45pm.

Part of a three-roomed flat on the fifth floor in the seven-storey block of flats was destroyed by fire.

It was a very visible fire with 20 999 calls made to the brigade’s control centre alerting them to the fire.

There were no reports of any injuries but two pets sadly perished in the blaze.

The fire was under control by around 6.45pm. Fire crews from Acton, Chiswick, Kensington, North Kensington, Paddington, Ealing and Chelsea fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
