Two killed and four injured after separate shooting and stabbing incidents
A man has died and two people were injured after a shooting in a residential area yesterday morning, less than an hour before a stabbing attack a few miles away which killed one and injured another two.
Cops were called at around 10.10am to reports of a shooting in Wells Park Road, Sydenham.
Officers attended, along with London Ambulance Service crews, and found a man suffering from gunshot injuries. He died at the scene.
Enquiries are under way to establish his identity and contact his family.
A woman was also found with gunshot wounds to her legs. She was taken to hospital, where her condition has been assessed as not life-threatening, police said.
A third person admitted themselves into hospital with what are believed to be gunshot injuries. Police await an update on their condition.
Commander Peter Stevens described the incident as a “senseless act of violence”.
There have been no arrests at this stage as police appeal for witnesses to the incident.
Commander Stevens said: “I know people will be shocked by this senseless act of violence, all the more so on a Sunday morning in a residential area. I share their concerns.
“A number of people have already contacted us. We need to hear from anyone who has phone, CCTV or doorbell footage that may help the investigation.”

Less than an hour later, in a reportedly unconnected incident, a man was stabbed to death in a busy market in East Street, Walworth.
Police were called at around 10.40am to reports of a number of people stabbed.
Officers and ambulance colleagues found three men injured. One man died at the scene.
Two other men were taken to hospital with stab wounds. Police await an update on their condition.
A man, believed to be aged in his 60s, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.
The incident is not being treated as terrorism and no one else is being sought by police.
Commander Stevens said: “Tragically, a man lost his life this morning, and officers are working hard to establish exactly what happened and to provide support to his family.
“My thoughts and sincere sympathies are with them, and with the other people injured.”
