Crystal Palace youngster earns first senior international call-up after debut in Fulham defeat
Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for the first time.
The 21-year-old has been drafted into Michael O’Neill’s squad for their Nations League double-header against Belarus and Luxembourg.
Scotland-born Devenny made his Crystal Palace debut in their 2-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Saturday – starting his very first game for the senior team after signing for the academy from Airdrieonians in August 2023.
Devenny won three tackles and only lost possession once during his 74-minute spell on the Selhurst Park pitch against Marco Silva’s side.
“The number of players we have pushed through from the 21s in the past 12 months is extremely high and Justin has been on that pathway,” explained O’Neill.
“Obviously Justin having made his Premier League debut has accelerated things and, with there not being a U21 camp in this international window, it’s great to have him in.
“We know what he is capable of, and it’s a good opportunity for him.”
