Charlton manager Nathan Jones will weigh up options to appeal Greg Docherty’s red card at Huddersfield
Nathan Jones is set to weigh up his options before deciding if he will appeal the red card shown to Greg Docherty at Huddersfield.
The Addicks skipper was given his marching orders for a challenge on Town’s Nigel Lonwijk eight minutes before the break at the John Smith’s Stadium – moments after Matty Godden had drawn the visitors level from the penalty spot.
The South Londoners went on to lose the game 2-1 in West Yorkshire.
When asked for his views on the referee’s decision to dismiss Docherty, Jones said: “He tries to clear the ball and the guy nips in there. There’s nothing violent, there’s nothing dangerous. He’s just gone to kick through the ball and kicked the player because the player has got there slightly earlier. For me, it’s a yellow, absolutely. Whether it’s a red, I’m pretty sure it’s not.
“We’ll look and dissect everything and appeal if we feel it’s really worth it. For me, it’s a very difficult red card to give.
“So much goes on. I look at professional fouls. I look at people like what Herbie Kane did to TC. What happened to TC against Wrexham where he gets booted off the ball.
“That isn’t that, he’s gone to clear the ball and he’s got there slightly early. If that’s a red card than we’re in trouble.”
