Charlton Athletic boss assesses next League One challenge as high-flying Wycombe set for Valley
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has talked about the test facing his side as they look to make it a hat-trick of League One victories by defeating Wycombe Wanderers at The Valley on Sunday.
The Chairboys are next up for the South Londoners, who won 2-1 against Cambridge United this afternoon.
Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield has been a contender for the vacancy at Millwall and saw his side produce an impressive result on the road to sweep aside Stevenage 3-0 today. Wanderers are second in the table, only a point behind table-topping Birmingham City.
Jones said: “Wycombe are well-coached and they have had a continuity for years. Even though they have changed manager they have gone with the captain there, Blooms, and he has done a fantastic job. Last season was a bit of a transitional one and now they have recruited again and are a really, really good side.
“They are winning games and scoring goals. They are going to be a real threat. We need to make sure we are.”
Jones has been asked about how much keeping players fresh over the busy Christmas period will be a factor.
“Absolutely,” said the Welshman. “Now you have to start thinking about those things. Not everyone can go game, game, game at the levels we demand from them, because you put people at risk.
“We played Saturday and then we’ve had a decent lead-in, in terms of time off, rest and training. Now we have gone again. It is about thinking how best to manage the whole squad.”
