Dulwich Hamlet relegation fears grow as boss Hayrettin pins plenty of blame on goalkeeper Barnes
Dulwich Hamlet manager Hakan Hayrettin was critical of goalkeeper Dillon Barnes after a crushing 4-3 loss to Bognor Regis Town on Saturday.
The pressure is building on Hayrettin with the hosts frittering away a 3-1 lead at Champion Hill – a result which drops them closer to the Isthmian League Premier Division relegation zone.
Dulwich are six points clear of the bottom four but have played two more fixtures than four of the clubs below them.
Luke Wanadio put Hamlet ahead inside the opening minute. Ralfi Hand scored twice before the 40-minute mark.
But Jasper Mather equalised in the 87th minute before a late winner for Tommy-Lee Higgs.
Dulwich have taken four points from a possible 40. They have easily the highest average home attendance in the division but are hugely under-performing.
Hayrettin is also struggling with a hefty injury list.
“We need to do better as a group,” Hayrettin told Dulwich Hamlet’s official website. “The goalkeeper there has killed us.
“It is not good enough. We get 3-1 up against 10 man, we’re in full control, and the goalkeeper drops it – they get one. Then he kicks it straight to them and they get another one.
“It is people just not doing their job.
“We spurned an opportunity to go 4-1 up. I don’t know why Kresh (Krasniqi) didn’t shoot into an open goal. I haven’t got a clue. The game is done then.
“People were not tracking back for the corner that led to the goal. It is simple basics – just run with your man.
“Of course fans are going to be disgruntled. I talk from the heart and I totally accept that.”
