Nathan Jones leaves door open for ex-Luton and Northampton striker to join Charlton coaching staff

Nathan Jones has not ruled out Danny Hylton joining his Charlton Athletic coaching staff.

The Addicks announced this week that Hylton’s contract had expired at The Valley but that he was still training with the squad.

Jones has spoken in the past about Hylton’s influence on the younger strikers within his squad.

“That’s up to Danny,” Jones told the South London Press when asked if he wanted the former Northampton and Luton striker to join his coaching set-up.

“He has a big learning curve in the game. Whatever I’ve asked Danny to do, he’s done with an aplomb.

“Whether it’s playing for me or as a centre forward or a battering ram. Whether it’s being a nuisance or playing as a number 10 and doing a man-to-man marking job on an international footballer.

“He will do all of that. In and around the training ground, we have a lot of young players now.

“If Tyreece Campbell, Dan Kanu and Miles Leaburn are to fulfil their full potential, people such as Matty Godden, Danny Hylton and Chuks Aneke are vital to that development.

“I can teach them so much, but when you get inside the head of Matty Godden, his movement and what he thinks about is better than my coaching of a centre forward – he lives and breaths it.

“He’s better at it than me. It’s important to have these people in and around the football club. Danny Hylton is a positive influence on absolutely everyone at the club.

“That’s why I like to have him around. It’s no coincidence that every environment which Danny Hylton is in, gets promoted.”
