Alan Dunne leaves Bromley by mutual consent – ex-Millwall defender ends eight-year association with Ravens
Bromley assistant manager Alan Dunne has departed by mutual consent after eight years of involvement with the club.
The 42-year-old former defender joined Bromley in 2017 towards the end of his playing career before transitioning into the coaching setup after his retirement, eventually being named assistant manager upon Andy Woodman’s arrival at the club in 2021.
The former right-back came through the youth system at Millwall, where he would sign his first professional contract and go on to make 388 appearances over a 15-year stint for the club, before his eventual departure to League Two Leyton Orient in 2015.
His spell at Orient was short lived, playing less than 20 times before moving to Bromley, where he made 39 appearances preceding his move into a coaching role in 2020.
His experience on the pitch helped mastermind the Ravens’ FA Trophy victory in 2022 and their National League Playoff win over Solihull Moors last May, which took them into the EFL for the first time in their history.
Owner-Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves said in a statement: “Alan has been a great servant to this football club, and we’ll be forever grateful for what he helped us achieve.
“The achievements made during his time at the club is testament to Alan and the rest of the staff, and that will always be remembered.
“Alan leaves us having made some brilliant memories, and we wish him the very best of luck in the future.“
Lions legend Dunne leaves having made his mark on the history of Bromley FC, and he reflected on the iconic playoff win at Wembley during an interview with South London Press last December.
“Me and Woody shared a glass of wine after,” said Dunne. “It was an emotional moment. I couldn’t even tell you what we said to each other. We just knew we did it.
“Nobody can take that away from us – we made history with the club.”
Little more than a month after that interview, the news of his exit comes during a turbulent time for the club, who threw away a three-goal lead against Salford on Tuesday to extend their winless run in League Two to six games.
