Dillian Whyte and Richard Riakporhe set to make heavyweight appearances in Manchester
South London heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Richard Riakporhe are set to be on the same Queensberry Promotions show in Manchester on April 5.
Brixton’s Whyte (31-3, 28KOs) will be part of the headline bout as he faces former WBO interim world champion Joe Joyce (16-3, 15KOs).
Whyte, 36, won the WBC interim world title by knocking out Alexander Povetkin in August 2020.
But his attempt to win the governing body’s full title ended in defeat as he was stopped in the sixth round by Tyson Fury at a packed out Wembley in April 2022.
Whyte has collected three low-key victories since then.
It is a clash of two fighters comfortably past their prime with Joyce looking painfully easy to hit in successive stoppage defeats to Zhilei Zhang.
The Olympic silver medallist, 39, has suffered losses in three of his last four bouts, including last time out when he was outpointed by Dereck Chisora in July.
Walworth’s Riakporhe, 35, is moving up from cruiserweight to face WBC Silver heavweight belt-holder Lawrence Okolie.
Riakporhe (17-1, 13KOs) put together 17 straight wins in the professional ranks but failed in his attempt to win the WBO cruiserweight title off Chris Billam-Smith at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park in June. The big puncher has not fought since.
Hackney’s Okolie (21-1, 16KOs) has held the WBO cruiserweight and WBC bridgerweight belts.
