Oliver Glasner delivers verdict on Chelsea loanee’s Crystal Palace debut
Oliver Glasner said Ben Chilwell’s Crystal Palace debut was positive as the Chelsea loanee was brought on in their FA Cup fourth round win over Doncaster on Monday evening.
Chilwell was substituted on at half–time for Tyrick Mitchell and played his first competitive half of football since featuring for Chelsea in their EFL Cup clash against Grimsby in September.
He joined the Eagles on the January transfer window deadline day on loan for the rest of the season.
“He needs this game time, he’s training with us for just one week,” said Glasner.
“Tyrick did well, there was no reason but we wanted to give Ben some minutes and solutions.
“He was a little bit too passive in defending so they could pass in behind.
“This is what we are doing differently but you could see he is comfortable in possession, in passing.
“A little more attacking than Tyrick, but this is what we were looking for, so a positive debut.
“Ben brings quality, experience, it’s important to integrate him into the way we are playing. It’s maybe a bit more aggressive than he is used to, especially out of possession our wing-backs have to do a lot but he will get used to it because he understands the game very well.”
