Crystal Palace boss gives verdict on Mitchell and Chilwell selection dilemma ahead of Everton clash

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has reiterated that the starting left wing-back role is up for grabs in his Crystal Palace side.

Tyrick Mitchell saw his starting role as the left-sided wing-back in Glasner’s system challenged when Ben Chilwell arrived from Chelsea on loan on deadline day.

Both wing-backs got 45 minutes against Doncaster in the FA Cup on Monday in Crystal Palace’s only game since Chillwell’s arrival.

This parity has raised questions as to who has the edge in terms of the starting role for their return to Premier League action against Everton on Saturday.

“It depends on the performance of the players,” said Glasner. “If a player performs great game by game, then it is a clear situation and the other one has to show in every single training session that he is ready if something happens and wait for the minutes.

“I never hope that a player is performing terribly. We are in a good situation now, having players in good shape.

“It is always better to choose between two players who are in good form than the opposite.

“It does not mean that Daniel Munoz plays every single game, but he performs well, scores goals, gets assists, is very consistent and does his job, which he has to do for the team.

“That is what we expect from every single player.”
