South London dancers warm up for World Cup in Spain

Dancers from a performing arts school are warming up for the Dance World Cup in Spain this summer, after triumphing in the qualifying rounds.

Dawson School of Performing Arts in School Lane, Welling, will be sending 75 of its talented students to represent England at the Dance World Cup in Burgos, Spain, this July.

The aspiring young performers from Bexley, Bexleyheath, Welling, Dartford and South east London, triumphed over numerous competitors to secure a spot on the national team.

They will join more than 120,000 competitors from 66 countries at the event.

Elin Dawson, Principal of Dawson School of Performing Arts, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievement in qualifying for the Dance World Cup.

“We are absolutely delighted, and the children are very excited to represent their country at such a prestigious event.”

But, to ensure they get their chance in the spotlight Dawson School of Performing Arts has launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe.

Money raised will be used to cover travel, accommodation, costumes, and other necessary expenses for the dancers.

Ms Dawson said: “Being part of team England comes with a lot of costs for parents, who need to purchase team kit and cover entry fees on top of paying for flights and accommodation.

“Our students’ dedication has been truly inspiring, and now we need the support of our community to help them get there.

“Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and bring us one step closer to sending these amazing dancers to Spain.”

The Dance World Cup is one of the largest and most competitive dance events in the world.  The qualification rounds saw as many as 90 entries per category, with only the top five securing a place for England.
