‘I don’t think the lads want me to live too long’ – Barnsley boss Clarke on Lincoln win and ‘massive’ Charlton match
Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has talked about his side making “crazy decisions” in matches – with Saturday’s 4-3 win over Lincoln City a prime example.
The Tykes head to Charlton Athletic tomorrow night with the latest round of League One fixtures pitting a number of the promotion-chasing clubs against each other.
Only Birmingham City (26) have taken more points over the last 10 fixtures than Charlton and Stockport County (both 22).
The Addicks, who produced a dramatic late victory at Leyton Orient on Saturday, head to Stockport this weekend.
But first Nathan Jones’ in-form side need to deal with the challenge of Barnsley.
Clarke saw his Tykes race into a 3-0 lead after 53 minutes and then make it 4-1 on 76 minutes, only for the Imps to make things uncomfortable in the closing stages.
“I don’t think the lads want me to live too long because 4-1 and 3-0 – it’s happened too many time that, for whatever reasons, we just make crazy decisions when we’ve been leading in games this season,” said Clarke. “We didn’t get punished today.
“It’s been a big week for us – nine points in a week. It is entertaining for the neutral but I want to be seeing a game out better than that.
“I knew we’d be a little bit leggy today, we were down to eight or nine players out of the squad through injury or suspension. The boys put a hell of a shift in.
“We’ll have to count the bodies up and numbers up and go again Tuesday. It is a massive game.”
