Charlton Athletic have possibility of moving fifth in League One after midweek action

Charlton Athletic could finish tonight as high as fifth in League One.

The Addicks host Barnsley at The Valley and if they are victorious then there is a chance they can climb above Huddersfield Town in the standings.

The Terriers are at home to third-placed Wrexham this evening. They are two points ahead of Nathan Jones’ side and have a superior goal difference by two.

Charlton might also be able to open up more of a gap on the clubs below them and looking to get into the play-off zone.

Seventh-placed Bolton Wanderers have a tough home assignment against runaway leaders Birmingham City while Leyton Orient, who lost 2-1 at home to the Addicks on Saturday, head to a Rotherham side who are 14th.

Reading, in ninth, host struggling Exeter City.

Charlton have taken 13 points from a possible 18 – form mirrored by Stockport and Bolton.

If the South Londoners were to lose then both Bolton and Orient – if victorious – would drop them down to eighth.

The Addicks have 13 matches remaining to play in the regulation campaign.
