Hundreds of young dancers to Step Around Town this spring

This spring, hundreds of dancers will participate in Step Around Town 2025, a programme of regional dance events to showcase talented young people.

From April through to May, a series of performances will take place in schools across Wandsworth, Croydon, Bexley, Westminster, Camden, Haringey, with dancers taking to the stage.

Performances will kick off at The Grey Coat Hospital CofE Comprehensive School, in Regency Street, Milbank on April 1. 

Dancers will then be welcomed to the stage at the Royal Academy of Dance HQ in York Road, Battersea on April 28, followed by a visit to Coombe Wood School in Melville Avenue, Croydon on May 1.

Battersea’s Royal Academy of Dance will also host two relaxed performances featuring students from SEND schools on May 2 and 9.

Step Around Town is one of several events created by the Step into Dance programme, the UK’s largest inclusive dance programme for secondary school students. 

Established in 2006, Step into Dance is a Royal Academy of Dance programme in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation. 

Working with mainstream, SEND schools and youth groups, Step into Dance offers a programme of weekly classes, workshops and performance opportunities to more than 4,000 students every year with an aim to reach those who may not otherwise connect with dance.

Alexander Campbell, artistic director of the Royal Academy of Dance said: “The Step Around Town events epitomise the RAD’s ambition to showcase the power of dance and its transformative impact on young people.

“For the young people involved, the events are a wonderful opportunity to perform in front of a live audience and showcase the skills that they’ve learnt throughout the school year. 

“On behalf of the RAD, we wish the best of luck to all the young people participating this year and we can’t wait to see you all in action.”

Tickets to all Step Around Town events will be available on the door where visitors are encouraged to make a donation.
