Jean-Philippe Mateta to miss Palace home game against Ipswich – confidence high he will be fit for Fulham FA Cup tie
Jean-Philippe Mateta is set to miss tomorrow’s home game against Ipswich due to the facial damage he suffered in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win over Millwall on Saturday – but the South London Press understands that the in-form forward should be back for their FA Cup quarter-final tie against Fulham at the end of the month.
Lions goalkeeper Liam Roberts was sent off early in the derby by Michael Oliver after a VAR review – with replays showing his high right boot connected with the side of the French international’s head.
Mateta was stretchered from the pitch and needed 25 stitches on a nasty wound to his ear.
But the powerful frontman is hoping that he can go to Palace to Marbella for their warm weather training camp. He would do individual training.
Roberts was facing the prospect of his ban being extended when our paper went to press.
The FA has submitted a claim seeking to increase the sanction facing the 29-year-old, who would normally miss three matches for a red card.
