Former Charlton Athletic midfielder has heavy goal involvement for Blackpool

Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Albie Morgan has been directly involved in nine goals in his last 12 League One matches.

The Blackpool player has managed more goal involvements in that period than in his first 48 appearances for them.

Morgan has two goals and seven assists.

The 24-year-old scored in Blackpool’s 2-1 victory at The Valley in September. He struck twice in their most recent fixture, a 3-0 win at Barnsley. Blackpool are set to play Cambridge United tonight.

Morgan came through Charlton’s academy set-up and scored eight goals in 146 senior matches.

He was diagnosed with type one diabetes in November.

Morgan recently told the Blackpool Gazette: “It’s so far so good, I’ve got it under control, and I’m getting the hang of it.

“It’s still early days, but I’m just taking it day-by-day, and the most important thing for me is continuing my football. There’s been no real issues with that so far, so let’s hope it stays that way. I’m learning to live with it for sure.

“For me, the football is the most important thing. My first thought was ‘will I be able to play again,’ – which was worrying.

“I now know there’s footballers who’ve got it, and have had it for a while. A lot of people got in touch with me, and said ‘you’ll be fine.’

“I had a lot of support in that sense, so that made me feel more at ease. I want to make the most of my career because I know how fast it goes. It just puts things into perspective.”
