Tennis: Catford Wanderers weekend match round-up – vets held by Gravesham

Catford Wanderers’ veteran men’s first team played out a 2-2 draw against Gravesham.

Rob Dawbarn and Lyndon Douglas made a bad start against Sarb Sandhu and Mazcin Konarowski, losing the first set 4-6.

They recovered to take the second on a similar score and managed to squeeze home in the deciding tie break.

John Allen and Brian Brass also lost the first set, but fought back to win the second 7-5, only to fade away at the tie-break. They were well-beaten by Sandhu and Konarowski 6-2 6-0. Dawbarn and Douglas won 6-1 7-5 to make it a draw.

Wanderers’ veterans second side -Andy Hellier , John Clay , Clive Richardson and Nnamdi Samuels – had a 3-1 win over David Lloyd (Dartford ).

Catford Ladies went down 3-1 at Park Langley with Kathy Aldridge, Lilla Brown, Kate Williams and Basia Olsinska. The boys’ U14 team of Harry Cole and Mason Green lost to Shooters Hill.

This weekend Catford Wanderers will join Tennis Clubs throughout the UK to celebrate the Nature Valley Tennis Weekend.

You can sample their courts hard and grass along with free coaching.
