Millwall boss Neil Harris reckons that more Championship clubs will regret not landing Alex Pearce.

The Lions confirmed in mid-May that they had secured the centre-back, who had been on loan for six months from Derby County, on a permanent transfer.

Pearce’s Rams deal ends on July 1 and he is straight on to the Millwall payroll.

And Harris says that as the transfer window progressed the list of suitors for the 30-year-old would have grown.

“He was a real key one for us,” said the Lions chief. “To get that done was vital. He is a real leader and a very good centre-half for us.

“He is one now that other clubs will be looking at in weeks to come and say we got ahead of the market.

“It will be one that other clubs look at and wish they were involved in.

“That’s good business by us.

“In regards to the rest of the Championship, there isn’t a lot of transfers – certainly not people spending money.

“There is a lot of jostling, agents talk and rubbish being spoken. People have high opinions of what their players are worth and sometimes you have to let things settle down.

“That’s not always easy as a manager, because you want your business done. I want players in more than anybody.

“We have to get the right players at the best value for our club.”
