Catford Wanderers tennis round-up: Mixed first team win big at Hartley Country Club

Catford Wanderers’ mixed first team secured a 5-1 win over Hartley Country Club last weekend.

The return of Claudia De Souza to the squad, and the introduction of Rob Dawbarn as third pair, gave the side a more competitive edge.

De Souza partnered Sean Harvey as they beat Helen Mansfield and Glen Follett 6-3 6-3.

Dawbarn and partner Kathy Aldridge got the better of Ross Eldred and Janet Byard, winning 6-3 6-3.

Team captain Martin O’Brien and Stephanie James made the score 3-0 at the end of the first round, getting home 6-3 7-5 over Sean Jefferson and Louise Mansfield 6-3 7-5.

De Souza and Harvey continued a good morning of  tennis as they overcame Eldred and Byard 7-5 6-0.

Dawbarn and Aldridge  pounded out a 7-5 6-2 result over Jefferson and Louise Mansfield.

Hartley avoided a whitewash as Follett and Helen Mansfield crushed O’Brien and James 6-1 6-2.

Catford mens’ second team lost 4-0 at Herne Bay. Wanderers’ side was John Norris, Adam Savage , John Townsend and Iliya Kuminichliev.
