Get fit in the park
A new outdoor gym has opened, thanks to a park user group. The Friends of Chinbrook Meadows (FOCM) successfully applied to the Tesco’s Bags of Help and the London Marathon Charitable Trust for funds.
A group of Year 8 girls from Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy were on hand to try out the equipment along with members of the users’ group. The gym has 10 exercise stations made by The Great Outdoor Gym Company.
Glendale, the parks management team, was there on hand to help users.
Anne Slater, chairwoman of FOCM said: “This is a fantastic addition to our local park and provides a new space for people to improve their fitness levels in the beautiful surroundings of Chinbrook Meadows.
“We are lucky to live in Lewisham, a borough that recognises the importance of parks and open spaces for the health and well-being of its residents.
“There has been lots of enthusiasm from park users when they saw the new gym installed and already people are using it every day.”
Resident Victoria said: “I can’t afford gym fees, so this is perfect, I love it.”
