Exclusive: Lee Bowyer set for further talks with Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet tomorrow

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer is set for more talks with Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet tomorrow – with his future as Addicks manager still in the balance.

Duchatelet issued a statement late this afternoon saying that the newly-promoted Championship side had been unable to come to an agreement with their manager over a new contract.

But the South London Press understands that the Belgian businessman has spoken to Bowyer since putting his statement out and the pair are due to carry on talking on Tuesday.

Duchatelet is ready to bring in a caretaker manager if he cannot secure the former Addicks, Leeds United and West Ham United midfielder on a new contract. He says there will not be a permanent appointment because he is intent on selling the South London outfit.

Bowyer’s contract runs out at the end of June but there was also a break option earlier this month which got extended after both parties agreed to opening a longer window of negotiation.

  • Interesting how every news thread, or most (yours excluded) are taking everything said in that statement as gospel…. in the knowledge that everything RD says should be taken with a pinch of salt. To his credit Lee Bowyer hasn’t responded and shouldn’t until the time is right. I’ve seen little evidence that anything RD said has been challenged…. all i’ve read, other than on here, has been lazy journalism…. 2 sides to every story? Hmmm!
