Rivals offer double the wages to Patrick Bauer as defender confirms he is leaving Charlton Athletic

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Patrick Bauer has confirmed that he will not be signing a new deal at Charlton Athletic.

The South London Press had been told earlier this week that Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan had tabled offers that were double the terms on offer from the Addicks.

Charlton will have the lowest budget in the Championship with owner Roland Duchatelet determined to keep costs under control as he looks to sell the newly-promoted club.

And Wembley hero Bauer will not be back in SE7 – as a home player at least.

He said: “After spending the last four years at Charlton Athletic Football Club, I have decided to start a new chapter in my career.

“In those four years I’ve met a lot of amazing people and made many good friends. Thank you to the staff, management, my teammates and especially the supporters for making me feel welcome since day one.

“Obviously we went through some tough times together, but I’m happy that I could help the club get back to the Championship and that we created some unforgettable memories at Wembley that will live forever. “
