Frank Bruno: Daniel Dubois is the future of British boxing

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Frank Bruno has described Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois as the future of British boxing.

Dubois faces Nathan Gorman for the vacant British title on July 13 at Greenwich’s 02 – right on his home turf.

And Bruno headed to the Peacock Gym in Canning Town to do some pad work with the South London contender, who has looked highly impressive on his way to compiling an 11-0 record.

Former world heavyweight champion Bruno said: “I’ve been following him, studying him. He’s a little bit shy with the cameras, but he’s got a good sense of humour, he’s a good looking guy and can punch like a mule.

“Once he’s matured, I’ll be very, very sorry and scared for his opponents.

“He’s still young and he’s still got a lot of maturing to do but I think he’s the future of British boxing.”

Dubois watched old videos of Bruno’s fights.

He said: “Growing up, my Dad had a whole load of VHS video tapes and I watched quite a lot of Frank.

“Fighters like Frank have paved the way for fighters like us today.”
