Millwall were still trying to hammer out an agreement for Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski as our paper went to press yesterday.

The Lions thought they were edging closer to an agreement at the end of last week.

But Bialkowski, who turns 32 next month, was part of the Ipswich squad who resumed pre-season training on Monday as they gear up for life in League One.

Relegation from the Championship last season has seen Bialkowski’s wages cut but it looked as if he would get a chance to continue to play in English football’s second tier as Millwall moved for the Poland international.

The Lions have been tight-lipped over the reason why the talks have spilled over into this week.

The South London club resume pre-season training today and are light in their goalkeeping department after the summer exits of Jordan Archer, David Martin, Tom King and Ben Amos.

But that is not to say that Millwall have not been working hard behind the scenes to get in a top-quality Championship stopper.

Bialkowski fits the bill in terms of experience and has won Ipswich’s Player of the Year award three times in a row – with more than 300 appearances under his belt.
