Streatham ‘Machete’ man was carrying a fork

A school went into lockdown after a man scaled its fence and brandished a fork.

Dunraven School in Leigham Court Road, Streatham, set off emergency measures after the shouting intruder terrified some of its pupils. Police were called at about 11.40am on Monday to reports of a man armed with a fork.

Officers attended and arrested a 26-year-old-man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to a South London police station. The Metropolitan Police later confirmed he was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act and was taken to a
mental health facility. He has been bailed to a date in mid-August.

Alarm spread among parents when the man was rumoured to be carrying a machete but police confirmed it was just a piece of cutlery. No one was injured during the incident. Enquiries continue.
