James Meredith leaves Millwall after club terminate contract

James Meredith has left Millwall after his contract was terminated.
The 31-year-old, who hadn’t reported back to Calmont Road for pre-season, signed a new long-term contract last July, but departs after two years at The Den.
Meredith joined the Lions from Bradford City in the summer of 2017 and was an ever-present in the Championship in his first season as Millwall narrowly missed out on the play-offs.
But 2018/2019 proved to be a difficult campaign for the Australian defender and although he still managed to make 38 appearances in all competitions, he struggled to reach the heights of the previous season and lost his place in the side to Murray Wallace before winning it back after the Scotsman suffered a season-ending injury in February.
Meredith’s final game for Millwall came in the 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic on the final day of last season. He managed 85 appearance in total for the Lions, but failed to score.
The defender is now a free agent.
