Enjoy a lazy September day on the old Metropolitan line, travelling in vintage style through lush suburbia on 1950s ex-British Rail 4TC coaches.

On September 7-8, passengers can relive the 1950s as they board the heritage train and take time to enjoy the special atmosphere at Amersham station, where costumed characters will bring the era to life.

The train will be hauled by a Sarah Siddons, one of the few electric locomotives still in service, and a Class 20 locomotive.

Visitors can also browse a pop-up London Transport Museum shop selling Metropolitan line-themed gifts such as the museum’s latest ‘moquette’ pattern socks, inspired by the iconic Tube seating fabric, Underground vintage originals and a range of London Underground gifts and souvenirs.

The London Transport Museum Friends will be on site with their unique collection of transport ephemera for sale.

On Sunday, September 8 only customers can also enjoy free heritage rides up to Amersham Old Town where the annual Heritage Day is taking place, on buses including the RM2 from the museum’s collection.

Matt Brosnan, head curator at London Transport Museum, said: “Our vintage railway journeys give people the chance to enjoy a moment of nostalgia as they experience a sense of what it was like to travel through the suburbs of London in the 1950s.

“Passengers will board a classic set of railway carriages hauled by one the UK’s most famous electric locomotives, Sarah Siddons.”

Both single and return journeys will be available, and adults can ride from £10, children from £5, and under three’s go free.
