Lee Bowyer has sympathy for his Charlton side after they are unable to turn an impressive display into three points against Nottingham Forest

Lee Bowyer said he had sympathy for his side after they had to settle for a point against Nottingham Forest despite an impressive display.

Charlton played some outstanding football at times on Wednesday evening and had a first-half lead thanks to Lyle Taylor’s header.

They were unable to turn their dominance into more goals and were made to pay as Albert Adomah levelled from a corner just over ten minutes from time.

“I feel so sorry for them,” admitted Bowyer.

“We deserved more. This game is ruthless. If you don’t take your chances, anything can happen. I don’t know what happened for the goal but I think it just hit someone and fell to their man from a set-piece. We deserved more.

“That first 45 minutes is the best I’ve seen us play since I’ve been in charge. They just couldn’t get near us. We won the ball back so quick with our pressing. We should have put the game to bed in the first-half. We still had chances second-half but it just wouldn’t go in. We died at the end. We were tired, you could tell the lads were off their feet.

“If we keep putting in performances like that, we’ll win a lot more games than we lose or draw. I’m disappointed with the point but it’s good to see the way we played and moved the ball from start to finish.”
