Club lost 36-23 to Coventry as friendly campaign is almost over – Worthing Raiders the final tune-up test
National League 1 side Blackheath play their final warm-up fixture at Worthing Raiders on Saturday (3pm).
Club lost 36-23 to Coventry last weekend, the greater power of the Championship side’s pack steered them to victory.
A Mark Cooke penalty put Blackheath ahead. Wing Junior Bulumakau and scrum-half Tom Kessell combined down the right flank for a converted try to give the visitors the lead.
Good handling by Blackheath saw Markus Burcham across, and a lovely line from Craig Dowsett off good line-out ball brought another try for the hosts.
But Coventry hooker Darren Dawidiuk was driven across twice, fly-half Rory Jennings adding a second successful strike at goal, to give the visitors a 19-13 interval lead.
Blackheath’s Jake Lloyd scored in the corner but almost immediately they lost possession allowing Jonas Mikalcius to hack forward, the ball sitting up nicely for the left-wing to restore Coventry’s six point advantage.
Prop James Gibbons crashed under the uprights for another Coventry score.
Lloyd nipped through a gap for his second try before a blind-side move from skipper and number-eight Ryan Burrows off a close-range scrum sealed Coventry’s win.
