QPR 2 Millwall 1 – Bart Bialkowski blunder is so costly as Lions lose unbeaten Den record
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Millwall saw their unbeaten record at The Den ended as Bartosz Bialkowski’s error proved highly costly – gifting Nakhi Wells the winner.
The Poland goalkeeper had made a number of saves in the 2-0 away defeat at Blackburn Rovers last weekend to keep the margin of defeat down.
But Bialkowski will not want to watch back the 72nd-minute goal which decided this derby. He miscontrolled the ball and it gave Wells a gift of an opportunity to put QPR back in front.
The on-loan Burnley man had fired the west London club ahead on 56 minutes.
Millwall levelled on 71 minutes with Shaun Hutchinson – starting in a three-man defence for the hosts – reacting quickest when Matt Smith’s initial header from a Shane Ferguson corner dropped in front of him.
Almost instantly the Lions were back behind, and Bialkowski was the culprit. His lack of control gave Wells the simplest of finishes for his sixth goal of the season.
Jed Wallace had a glorious chance to make it 2-2 as he was played through on the left of the box but drove wide of the upright.
It was the best chance for the hosts to get back on level terms and they are winless in five Championship matches and drop to 16th in the standings.
QPR are scoring goals and that is the name of the game.
If you can’t score two or three against the Rangers your not going to win or even draw.
QPR can get a lot better but with the Championship quality throughout the division every game you need to be at your best and take your goal opportunities.
Nothing changes, QPR are trying to play attacking football it’s such a breath of fresh air to have a manager and team with this as a prime target.
Good luck Millwall for the season l like them to do well, they get a lot of bad press but they have a fine football club and supporters. There is always a few bad apples who spoil their image but that’s the same for every club, Millwall get singled out by the press.
