Exclusive – AFC Wimbledon keeper Nathan Trott: I was fouled for crucial Bristol Rovers goal

BY SAM SMITH

AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Nathan Trott says he was fouled prior to Bristol Rovers taking the lead at the Cherry Red Records Stadium last Saturday.

The West Ham loanee initially spilled a header by Jonson Clarke-Harris but reclaimed the ball before being bundled into by a Gas attacker.

The goal put Rovers ahead after Abu Ogogo had cancelled out Marcus Forss’ opener for the Dons.

Tony Craig scored a third to condemn Wimbledon to a 10th League One fixture without a win.

“I misjudged the bounce and you see the ball go over my head,” said Trott, 20. “But I’ve caught the ball before it goes over the line and the guy kind of nudges me into the net.

“The ball still isn’t 100 per cent over the line but the linesman has given it. It’s a bit unfair but that it just how it is. Once he [the referee] calls it, he can’t really bring it back. Everyone in the stadium knows what the right call was. It was a foul but the ref hasn’t given it.”

To compound the Dons’ misery, striker Forss was sent off on the hour mark. He had been booked for over-celebrating his goal before being shown a second yellow for a foul.

Trott said: “The game on Saturday was frustrating. It’s the same story, going a goal up and then a few errors leading to goals. Once we cut those out, it will only be positive from there.

“We will get results. The good thing is that we’ve got a good run of games.

“Right now it’s a rough patch but it can only get better from here.”

He’s right. Just about every ref would give a free kick if an opposition player even breathes on the keeper. Anyhow, if it had been disallowed The Gas would still have one 2-1
