Ryan Leonard gives his opinion on Millwall recall – and felt point at Huddersfield Town was deserved
Ryan Leonard felt Millwall were worthy of their point at Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions came from behind to secure a share of the spoils at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, thanks to Matt Smith’s third goal of the season.
“It’s a fair result,” said Leonard. “In the first half we played some good stuff, created some good chances. We let ourselves down in the second half a little bit, so all in all a point is a fair result.”
Leonard was back in the team after starting on the bench against QPR.
It was the first time that he and Shaun Williams had started together in the league since Millwall traveled to Middlesbrough on August 24.
Asked why he felt the manager made that decision, Leonard said: “It was a case of we needed to get a foothold in the game. We knew it was going to be tough with the reaction of a new manager in charge.
“It was one of them where we had to get a foothold in the game – use our experience a little bit, get a foothold in the game. We did that really well.”
Although, Millwall picked up a point in Yorkshire, they still remain winless since August 17.
The former Sheffield United man hopes his side can take the positives into tomorrow’s game at Luton.
“Pressure builds the more games you don’t win but first half we played some really good stuff,” said Leonard. “But the second half was disappointing.
“We need to take the positives into Wednesday night at Luton – do what we did in the first half.”
Shane Ferguson will miss tomorrow’s game after being dismissed for two bookable offences at Huddersfield.
Leonard said: “It was a case of it being two good yellow cards. The guy [Adama Diakhaby] had done well since he came on and Fergie [Shane Ferguson] had done his best – he’s got the wrong side of him and made a last-ditch tackle. If you make the tackle it’s great, but if you miss it you open yourself up to a second yellow.
“I don’t think there is much he could do there. We had to stick together after that, the manager brought Murray Wallace on and he did really well in the last 10 minutes.”
