Horsman title hopes could be out of reach after Donington crash

Cameron Horsman saw his chances of securing the British Motostar championship title take a set back after a crash on the last lap in race one, whilst challenging for the lead before bouncing back to claim victory in the second last weekend.

A superb qualifying session on the cold Leicestershire track put the Lewisham rider top of the standard class, 0.838 seconds ahead of main title rival, Scott Ogden in second.

Conditions had improved greatly by Saturday afternoon with the temperature rising to just under 20 degrees for race one.

Making a good start, Horsman immediately took the lead, closely followed by Ogden, only a tenth or two behind the teenager every lap.

Five laps to go and the Doncaster rider made his move to take over the lead of the race.

Through the Melbourne Hairpin for the penultimate time, Hormsan retook the number one spot to lead going into the final 2 miles of racing.

Ogden once again passed Horsman with the Forest Hill rider pushing hard to find a way past.

Approaching the Melbourne Hairpin for the final time, Horsman was unable to repeat his move from a lap previous, locking the front wheel under braking and crashing out of contention, handing the win and a 37 point advantage to Ogden.

Away from the lights in Sunday’s race and Horsman got another flyer, leading the pack into the first corner. In a twist of fate it was Ogden’s turn to have bad luck as he got caught up in an incident with two other riders, running into the gravel traps and rejoining down field.

Opening up a gap of more than twenty seconds Horsman looked set to pull back a large chunk of points on his rival before, once again, fate intervened and the race was red flagged just after half distance as the rain began to fall.

All his advantage was lost as the grid reformed for the restart of the six lap sprint race.

Though leading from the lights again, Odgen made easy work of slicing through the pack to be on the back of Horsman once more but despite briefly losing the lead Horsman held on to take the win by just 0.090 seconds.

“The fall in race one was a real blow. I pulled back five points in the last race but I am not thinking about the championship now. My aim is to try and win the final two races of the season. I’d like to thank SP125 and all my sponsors including Nova Racing.”

The final two races of the season will be held at Brands Hatch in Kent on the 18 to 20 October where Horsman sits 32 points behind Ogden with a potential 50 up for grabs.
