Shaun Hutchinson gives his verdict on Gary Rowett’s appointment as Millwall manager

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Shaun Hutchinson is looking forward to getting down to work with new Millwall manager Gary Rowett.

And the defender, who skippered the Lions in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City, reckons there is no need to do homework on the new boss.

Rowett, 45, was due to meet the Millwall players yesterday after watching the midweek Championship fixture from the Den directors’ box.

“He’s got a proven record,” said Hutchinson, who signed for Millwall following his release by Fulham in the summer of 2016.

“Everyone feels he can help the club and take it forward. We’re looking forward to hearing his ideas.

“As a player it is exciting because you want the best for yourself and your team-mates. If he gets his ideas across and we get up the table then it works for all parties.

“With Gary Rowett, you know his profile pretty well. I’ve played against his teams. He’s not a manager you really need to look into, you know a lot about him.

“The boys were all aware he was in the stand and it will be interesting to see what he made of it [the Cardiff game].

“You want to play well, because first impressions are great. But the most important thing is that there were three points at stake – and every three points are massive in this league – unfortunately we didn’t get all of them.

“We’ve kept our head down, working hard all week. There’s been a lot of speculation about what is going on, but the boys handled themselves well and put on another performance for Adam Barrett. A draw was probably a fair result.”
