Millwall transfer plans revealed – as Lions look for loan additions in January window

Millwall will not be making permanent signings in the January transfer window – with boss Neil Harris revealing that loan deals are being lined up for the new year sales.

The Lions are looking to bring in another centre-back to cover the loss of Byron Webster, facing a fight to be back this season after undergoing knee surgery, and will also aim to bring in another offensive option.

“We’re not looking at bringing in players on permanent deals,” said Harris. “We’re looking at loan players with the possibility of extending their stay with us in the future – like we did with Shane [Ferguson], Jed [Wallace], George [Saville] and Jake [Cooper].

“You can spend so much time wasting working on deals and it is a seller’s market. One thing we won’t change – and it never will – is players coming in on our terms, not somebody else’s.

“We are certainly looking at bringing two players in. We need defensive cover as we’re short without Byron and an attacking player to add options to the quality we have already.

“We are keen to get the business done as quickly as possible but will also be patient if we are waiting a week or two to get the right ones.

“We have identified our targets but since we have started talking to clubs it has gone from a lot of availability, then they have been back in the team because of an injury or suspension. It is going to be like this all through January – situations change so quickly.”
