West Bromwich Albion v Charlton Athletic team news: Ben Purrington returns from injury as Lee Bowyer makes five changes

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Ben Purrington returns from injury to start as Lee Bowyer makes a total of five changes for Charlton’s trip to table-topping West Bromwich Albion.

Purrington’s return from three weeks out with a knock is the first bit of good news Bowyer has had on the injury-front this week, as he comes into today’s game with eight first-teamers in the treatment room and West Brom loanee Jonathan Leko unable to feature against his parent’s club.

Jake Forster-Caskey and Sam Field, who wouldn’t have been able anyway as he is also on loan from The Hawthorns, are the latest additions to the injury list and miss out today.

Naby Sarr will come into a back three, with Purrington replacing Deji Oshilaja as he slots in at left-wing-back. Chris Solly is in for Beram Kayal and he will operate on the opposite flank to Purrington.

Darren Pratley will form part of the midfield in place of Field, with Erhun Oztumer expected to play just off birthday boy Macauley Bonne up front.

Youngsters Josh Davison, Ben Dempsey and Alfie Doughty, who was recalled from a loan spell at National League side Bromley this week, are all amongst the substitutes.

Charlton: Phillips, Purrington, Sarr, Pearce, Lockyer, Solly, Pratley, Cullen, Gallagher, Oztumer, Bonne. Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Oshilaja, Aneke, Kayal, Dempsey, Davison, Doughty.
