Charlton striker forced out of Zimbabwe action due to “unforeseen medical grounds”

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Macauley Bonne has been forced to drop out of international duty with Zimbabwe due to what he describes as “unforeseen medical grounds”.

The Charlton striker has taken his chance in Lee Bowyer’s side in the absence of Lyle Taylor, who has been missing since the end of August with a knee injury.

Bonne, a £200,000 signing from Leyton Orient in the summer, has scored five goals in nine matches for the Addicks.

And before the weekend he had received his Zimbabwean passport which cleared him to play in competitive international matches.

“Unfortunately and reluctantly, I am unable to travel due to unforeseen medical grounds which is a huge frustration to me, as it will be to the people of Zimbabwe,” Bonne wrote on his Twitter page.

“The messages of support via social media are much appreciated and although I cannot reply to every message, I do take every one to heart.

“I’d like to wish the entire Zimbabwe team the very best of luck in the coming game(s).”
