Ice-hockey: Streatham make it 13 straight wins with back-to-back victories over rivals Invicta Dynamos
Streatham alternate captain Rupe Quiney is a happy man now the RedHawks are flying high after 13 straight wins in all competitions.
Streatham Arena was packed out on Saturday night to watch the hosts demolish Invicta Dynamos 13-3 – the biggest ever win over their Kent rivals.
There were hat-tricks from Scott Bailey and Adam Carr, plus a brace from Adam Wood and goals from Rupe Quiney, Rhys McCormick, Ziggy Beesley, Brandon Miles and Jonathan Wallius. Juraj Huska, Brandon Webster and Owen Dell grabbed the goals for the Mo’s.
“Skating out in front of a crowd that size gets everyone excited” admitted Quiney, who opened the scoring with a superb slasphot.
“We knew we had to perform well as the top of the league is so close at the minute and any slip up is a real setback.
“Invicta have a good team on paper and when the score was at 2-2 it looked like we would be in for a close game. We just went up through the gears and never looked back.
“The Streatham crowd have seen us suffer some heavy defeats to the Dynamos in the past so it was good to put on such a big display in front of them.”
The following evening the team travelled to play the Dynamos in the NIHL Cup and secured a place in the final with a 5-1 road win.
In a feisty affair that saw Jordan Gregory and Brandon Webster trade blows, the RedHawks took the points thanks to goals from Michael Farn, Adam Carr, Danny Ingoldsby, Scott Bailey and Adam Wood. The Dynamos consolation came through Juraj Huska.
Streatham have a weekend off before arguably the biggest game of the season at home to title rivals Chelmsford Chieftains.
It will be the first time the teams have played each other in three seasons.
Quiney said: “With a couple of weeks of relatively sparse games, it’s important we get some momentum going into the lead up to Christmas.
“Chelmsford and Solent are right up there with us. We cant afford any slip ups.”
Star forward Ryan Watt is suspension but Vanya Antonov’s ban has been overturned by the governing body.
