Gary Rowett reveals most pleasing aspect of opening weeks in the Millwall hotseat

Gary Rowett has revealed one of the most pleasing aspects of his opening weeks in the Millwall job – with the international break a chance for a spot of reflection.

The Lions have won both home Championship matches under the new manager, who was appointed Neil Harris’ successor on October 21.

Rowett brought in Callum Davidson as his assistant boss with Joe Carnall, pictured right, coming in as technical coach.

Rowett said: “I’ve been pleased with the points return. I’ve been pleased with the application that the players have shown and how they have tried to take the ideas on board.

“The thing I’ve been pleased about most is the way the three of us have been made to feel so welcome. That’s a massive factor. The fans, the staff – everyone has made us feel really welcome. It makes a big difference to feel at home.

“We can improve lots of aspects of the team but we’ve shown some periods of good potential and what the club has been about for a while now. It’s been built on solid foundations.

“As you saw the first season in the Championship, the team can perform to a very high level.

“We’ve got some tough games coming up, so it’s nice to get those wins – because those points are in the bank. But we’ve got to build on that now. We’ll work incredibly hard and see where it takes us.”
