What’s On: The EFG London Jazz Festival returns until 24th November
The EFG London Jazz Festival returns with an international line-up of jazz and blues legends, writes Katie Dennett.
The festival is on until November 24.
Corinne Bailey-Rae, pictured right, will perform for her first London headline show in three years on November 18. Her album The Heart Speaks in Whispers has taken a new turn and wowed her fans.
Grammy-winning producer Terri Lyne Carrington is set to bring her new band Social Science Community to the stage.
There will also be a late-night line-up of talents including Emma Jean Thackray, Soweto Kinch, TrueMendous and Ayanna Witter-Johnson.
American trumpeter Christian Scott is coming to London for this year’s festival. He has won the Edison Award twice and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards.
The masters of traditional Korean music and jazz Black String are back at the festival for the second time.
Black String burst onto London’s music scene when they performed at the festival eight years ago and are now returning to show the capital how they have come on since then.
They performed alongside many music stars, including Kathryn Tickell, Tim Garland and Gwilym Simcock.
They will take to the stage on November 18 at the Southbank Centre to perform their experimental and diverse music live.
Black String’s second album will be released at the end of the year – so you can hope they may premiere some of their new music live.
Other big names at this year’s festival is Chicago’s artist Angel Bat Dawid, Maurice Louca’s Elephantine Band, Cecile Mclorin Salvant and Polish duo Zimpel/Ziolek.
There will be something for everyone at the festival, with folk, world, classic and contemporary musicians also performing.
A collection of comedy shows and family events will also take place across the week.
Venus Unwrapped and Nature Unwrapped are unique events that merge music, politics and speech together to discuss femininity and nature.
These one-of-a-kind performances will bring a fresh perspective to the annual festival.
