Shaun Williams explains thinking behind his sublime goal for Millwall – and piles praise on Jed Wallace
Shaun Williams scored a stunner at Birmingham on Saturday – then admitted he had no choice but to shoot.
The Millwall midfielder produced a sublime finish from 25 yards in the 1-1 draw. He said: “I can’t go around anyone, so I just hit it – and luckily enough it went in.”
The Irishman had been struggling with a hip injury and was unable to train on Friday. Williams said: “I was just taking all sorts of tablets. I don’t know what it was, it just flared up and I couldn’t move.
“We are down to the bare bones at the minute but I’m not as bad as the others. We just have to roll our sleeves up and get on with it.”
Williams reckons that Jed Wallace is in the best form of his Millwall career – the winger has been involved in nine goals in as many matches, as well as leading the scoring charts with seven.
“Even in training he looks like a different player,” said Williams. “He’s our main man. I don’t want to say too much about him, in case other teams come sniffing about him.
“It looks like he has a new lease of life. The gaffer and staff have given him a confidence to really push up.”
