Ice-hockey: Streatham’s 11-game run ended as Devils goalie has one hell of a game

Streatham’s 11-game winning streak came to a cruel end last weekend as Solent Devils skated away with two points from the High Road.

Despite being under siege for much of the game the south coast side came away with a 3-2 win thanks to a strong and organised defensive display by goalie Chico Cole and his team-mates.

Cole turned away an impressive 64 shots with only efforts from Adam Carr and Brandon Miles making their way past him.

A brace from Ralfs Circenis and a goal from Richard Facey made it a memorable evening for the visitors who are now riding high at the top of the Britton Conference with 13 wins in 13 games.

“It was always going to be unlikely we went through the season undefeated,” admitted alternate captain Adam Wood.

“However when you outshoot a team 66-14 you’d expect to take the win in 99 games out of 100, but Cole had a good game between the pipes and that’s hockey.

“We’ve got a game in Cardiff on Saturday and then we play Haringey at home in the cup on Sunday, so we really need to bounce back and not let this affect us.”

Streatham are waiting to see if forward Ryan Watt will get any supplementary discipline after he was ejected for slashing midway through the Solent game.
