Charlton boss: Sheffield Wednesday penalty was ridiculous – there was no contact made by Oztumer

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer reckons that referee Tim Robinson made the wrong call awarding Sheffield Wednesday a penalty in last weekend’s Championship fixture.

Steven Fletcher converted from the spot after the official ruled that Erhun Oztumer, pictured, had tripped Jacob Murphy.

“I’ve looked back at the penalty and I don’t think it’s a penalty,” said Bowyer. “Ozzy tried to win the ball, ran alongside the fella [Murphy], stretched his leg out to win the ball – he missed the ball but the fella kicks the back of his leg and goes over.

“It was a blatant play for a penalty. Ozzy never made any contact with the fella – none.

“It’s another harsh one. I’m going to raise it with the referee fella today, because it is getting ridiculous. In the last two games decisions haven’t gone our way from the officials. It can’t keep happening like that.

“I get they’ve got the hardest job in the world but it’s costing us – especially when we have not done anything wrong. Our players are giving everything.”
