Life saving defibrillator donated to Lambeth boxing club thanks to funding from businessmen and volunteers

A historic boxing club now has a key piece of safety equipment, thanks to funding from businessmen and volunteers.

Fitzroy Lodge in Lambeth Road, North Lambeth was given the defibrillator by Justin Hudson after he was donated the cash by Welling Round Table.

Justin, who owns Safety Skills 4 Life, used to box at the club.

He said: “We at Safety Skills 4 Life Training are overjoyed to be able to present this defibrillator to Fitzroy Lodge ABC.

“The funding was generously provided by Welling Round Table for which we are all very thankful.

“The Fitzroy Lodge club has been an integral part of the community for nearly 110 years providing a safe family environment for kids to train and learn life skills as well as producing countless talented champion boxers.”

Graduates from Fitzroy Lodge include British lightweight champion David Charnley, world super-featherweight champion Cornelius Boza-Edwards and world heavyweight champ David Haye.

If a defibrillator is used within the first three to five minutes of a cardiac arrest, the survival rate increases from six to 74 per cent.
