Double injury blow for Charlton Athletic as duo – expected to return at QPR – suffer setbacks

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Jonny Williams and Sam Field are out of Charlton’s derby at QPR on Saturday – after both suffered injury setbacks.

The duo had been pencilled in to be back in Lee Bowyer’s squad for the fixture in west London.

The latest news is a big body blow to the Addicks chief as he goes into the busy Christmas period with a significantly depleted squad.

“Jonny trained last week and had a airshot,” explained Bowyer. “He felt his hamstring was a bit tight. He didn’t train on Wednesday and Thursday and we had to pull him out [of the Hull match].

“We think he has tweaked his hamstring from the airkick. It is a grade one, so they reckon a couple of weeks.

“Sam Field was doing his last day of training at West Brom on Tuesday and his foot got stuck in the grass and he’s tweaked his knee again. He twisted the wrong way and his foot got stuck.

“He was in normal training, all of his rehab was done but they wanted to give him a couple of days training before they sent him back to us, just so they knew he was all good.

“He got through the first day and then got injured on the second day.

“He is having a scan and we’ll see how bad it is.

“So we have no players coming back. The nearest one to coming back is about two weeks.

“I just hope we don’t pick up any more. If we started losing more then we’re in real trouble.”

Williams (knee) has not played since the 3-0 victory over Derby in late October – the last time that Charlton won a match.

Sam Field (knee) has been out for the same period of time.
