Crystal Palace sign Dundee United attacking midfielder Scott Banks

BY MATT VERRI

Crystal Palace have signed Scotland U19 international Scott Banks from Dundee United.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder arrives on a three-year deal from the Scottish Championship side, and admitted he didn’t require much persuading.

He said: “When you hear about that interest from Crystal Palace, you want to pursue that and push yourself to the highest level.

“It was a no-brainer that this was the place for me.

“There’s no bigger stage I’d want to play on. It’s a big step up coming from Scotland.”

The teenager made his debut for Dundee United earlier this season having spent last year on loan with Clyde FC in the Scottish League Two, where he won the club’s goal of the season.

He was also named man of the match in the play-off final second leg as he helped Clyde to promotion to League One.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson revealed this week the club were close to sealing a deal for the Scot, their first signing of the January transfer window.

“I haven’t been able to scout him at all but I know he is a very talented midfield player,” he said.

“He’s the right type we are looking for so it will be nice to welcome him to the club.

“His first contacts with the club will probably be more on the academy side.”
